Senior Master Sergeant Tommy W. Kirk

 

     Senior Master Sergeant Tommy W. Kirk is the First Sergeant for the 95th Fighter Squadron, Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. 

     Sergeant Kirk was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on July 23, 1953.  He attended Jonesboro High School and excelled across the entire spectrum of school activities.  As a three-year member of the Jonesboro High School Choir, his exceptional performance earned him a spot on the school elite 12-member chamber choir the “Camaroda Singers.”

      After graduating from high school in 1971, Sergeant Kirk was locally employed, and served the community as a Pop Warner football coach for the YMCA.  He subsequently enlisted in the Air Force under the Delayed Enlisted Program in September of 1977 and was called to active duty in November of 1977. 

     Upon completion of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, in 1978, Sergeant Kirk began technical training as a Security Police Officer at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where he was an Honor Graduate from the Air Base Ground Defense course.  He was then assigned to Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, and began on-the-job training for his 5-skill level. 

     In 1979, Sergeant Kirk was reassigned to Royal Air Force, Alconbury, United Kingdom where he served as a security police officer.  After serving 4 years at Alconbury Sergeant Kirk was reassigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, for 1 year as Weapons Storage Area Supervisor and Aircraft Alert Area Supervisor.  It was then on to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, for 4 years, serving as an instructor at the Security Police Officer Academy.  He was again assigned to Royal Air Force, Alconbury, United Kingdom in 1989.  It was while assigned to Alconbury that Sergeant Kirk first developed into the intricacies of being a first sergeant.  Sergeant Kirk “officially” earned his diamond in the beginning of 1995.  He was then assigned to Tyndall, AFB, Florida where he was selected as the AETC Transportation Support NCO of the Year for 1996.  In 1998, he was off to Howard AFB, Panama to close the Canal Zone base.

     He was promoted to Senior Airman Below the Zone and promoted to Senior Master Sergeant on 1 April 2000.  He has an Associate’s degree in Industrial Security.  Sergeant Kirk is the recipient of the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, with two oak leaf clusters, The Air Force Achievement Medal and has received many letters of appreciation for his civic involvement.
